Story

Nur is Chef Najat Kaanache's tribute to the proud cultural and agricultural diversity of Morocco. She affectionately refers to her country as "the mouth of Europe", forged through its unique confluence of colonial cultures.

In the words of famed Chef Ferran Adria, "Najat represents the soul of Morocco through the language of the kitchen."

Our dining room has a chic contemporary feel, but the design elements actually date back to Byzantine times, simultaneously offering a sanctuary and time capsule.

Chance brought Nur to Fez, but, over time, we hope to shine light on Moroccan gastronomy. Today, we feel comfortable ensconced in the shade of a maze of pathways where we blur the boundaries between art and gastronomy, between the traditional and modern culinary worlds.

Dégustation Menu

For approximately 2 1/2 hours, and through about 10 creations, Chef Najat invites you to experience a brave new Morocco.
Each morning our team sources the best available produce from within the Medina and construct our largely improvisational menu around the seasonal seafood and local protein offerings from our specialty purveyors.
We happily accommodate all dietary requests with a minimum of 24 hours advance notice.


Team

History and Design of Dar Nur:

Designer Stephen di Renza was born in Philadelphia and has lived in Lyon, New York, Paris, Hanoi and London.
He first came to Fez in 1999, instantly fell in love with the medina and acquired the home that is now riad n°9.
Stephen has been living full-time in Morocco since 2007, dividing his time between Kech and Fes.
In the summer of 2013 he was appointed creative director for retail operations for Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech. Stephen designed Dar Nur as a magical space where Moroccan cuisine can shine.

Moroccan Cooking Classes & Culinary Tours

Discover the magic behind traditional Moroccan cuisine in our immersive classes and enjoy a marvelous meal prepared by your own hand. Join Chef Najat, star of "La Cocina Marroqui" on Canal Cocina and El Gourmet, to learn the basics of Moroccan cooking. You will prepare a full meal consisting of salads and sides, couscous, tagine and bastila, sweets and mint tea! Classes and tours span approximately 4 hours (including luncheon), accommodate from 2 to 8 guests and are available by appointment only at Tock

Accommodations

Located directly adjacent to Dar Nur you will find luxurious guest accommodations at Riad n°9.
The riad is an 18th century bourgeois residence that has been reincarnated as a boutique bed and breakfast with a roof terrace and sweeping views over the medina. Riad n°9 was originally purchased as a vacation home in 1999 and underwent a 3-year restoration process which revealed original 18th century mosaics, hand-painted wood and hand-carved wood and plaster. In 2007, we opened to the public and changed nothing believing guests would appreciate the "personal" touches throughout. Our philosophy is to offer guests the possibility of appropriating the space for themselves and experiencing what an authentic medina home feels like.



Our standard room at 100€/night has a double bed and large, separate and private bathroom that is 7 steps down from the room.





Our junior suite at 150€/night features
a king - size bed with en-suite bath.





Our master suite at 200€/ night is a two-room suite that comprises the entire 3rd floor of the riad: bedroom with king-size bed and bath/sitting room.


All prices include all taxes, airport or train station pick-up, porter services and breakfast.
